George B. Schwabe

Born in Vernon County, Missouri in 1886, Schwabe moved to Nowata in 1911 and began to practice law.

He ran for mayor and served as such from 1913 to 1914 before being elected to the State House of Representatives in 1918. He also served as Speaker of the House in 1921 and 1922.

He later moved to Tulsa and continued to practice law, but returned to politics in 1944, being elected in Oklahoma's 1st Congressional District and serving in Washington, DC from 1945 to 1949 and again from 1951 until his death.

While in office, Schwabe suffered a heart attack and died on April 2, 1952.
