Nowata History 1894: Fire Destroys Nowata Business DistrictAround midnight on August 3, 1894, a fire ripped through the business section of Nowata, destroying much of the stores in the growing town. The fire caused around 50-thousand dollars in damage, of which only about half was covered by insurance. Among the businesses damaged or destroyed by the blaze was P.P. Quinn's drug store, which was not insured. Also damaged was the store of J.J. Barndollar. |
